In part one of this two-part series, we went over some of the primary benefits of combining chiropractic care with home stretching techniques. From pain relief benefits to numerous other areas, there are several great reasons to combine these two areas.
At Foundation Chiropractic, we’re proud to offer a wide range of chiropractic care services, from whiplash treatment and car accident recovery themes to manual chiropractic adjustments for back pain treatment and many other areas. Our chiropractors regularly share stretching themes or recommendations with clients to assist them with pain management, posture or other areas of daily life in between sessions – here are some more of the specific benefits of stretching in coordination with chiropractic care.
Stress Relief
Stress is a significant concern for many people, and it’s far from just a mental condition. While stress does generally begin in the brain, its impact tends to be felt throughout the body in numerous physical areas – tight muscles, lack of flexibility and other related concerns.
Luckily, this is one area where both chiropractic care and stretching provide fantastic benefits. Even if you just stretch for a few minutes per day, this will bring fantastic benefits to muscles or joints that are too tight, including those that are tightened subconsciously without you even realizing it. A particular focus on the neck, shoulders and upper back is generally best for stress relief; our chiropractors will recommend specific stretches to help your situation.
Flexibility Benefits
A well-known benefit of stretching is improving flexibility, and the benefits are even greater when combined with chiropractic care. Many cases of limited flexibility are due to tight muscle groups or joint areas, and this can trace back to stress in many cases. Stretching also helps improve range of motion, which in turn leads to fewer injury risks while you’re either active or sedentary.
Lowering Cholesterol
Another benefit of stretching you may not have been aware of: It can help control cholesterol levels for those who have struggled with this. Stretching before or after physical activity has shown direct benefits for healthy cholesterol levels, though of course this should be combined with other efforts like a healthy diet and proper aerobic exercise.
Daily Blood Flow
Finally, particularly during recent societal periods where we’re spending more time at home than ever, stretching is a fantastic way to get the blood flowing and activate bodily movement. Just a few minutes spent stretching in the middle of your day can help bust your body out of an activity slump, working muscles that hadn’t been used in a while and limiting stiffness moving forward.
